Last year surpassed, Cequent raises more for local school

Cequent Consumer Products Tops last year, raises More money, and school supply donations for local elementary school for a second year

For Immediate Release

Solon, OH (August 18, 2011) – For the second year in a row Cequent Consumer Products has selected Central Primary School in the Back Packs Program. This year the donations have come from a combined effort of employee donations and money donated at the annual company sales meeting in July.  As a result, more than $1,000 was either raised or donated in school supplies from Central Primary’s list.

Cequent will be presenting Central Primary a monetary donation as well as numerous backpacks filled with items from the school supply list Friday, August 19, 2011. Central Primary School is attended by more than 500 students grades K-3 and is part of Bedford City Schools.

The team who has led the backpacks program for the past two years is Pat Harrity and Sarah Holecek from Human Resources and Diane Yagl, VMI Analyst. The team organized this project which includes handling donations, shopping for supplies and distribution to the school.

“Cequent employees are great at giving forward.  We agree that our future leaders are today’s children and we should give them the tools they need to be successful.  We chose Central Primary again this year as a result of meeting the principal and some of his staff last year and seeing the value of this team effort and what it means to the staff and students there,” said Pat Harrity, Human Resources Director.

“School supply lists these days are pretty extensive and it can be hard on some parents to afford everything for their children, especially in today’s economy.  It’s also hard on the children going to school not fully prepared, socially and academically so hopefully by donating these supplies we can give the students some of the tools they need to excel in school,” said Sarah Holecek, Human Resources.

Central Primary Principal, Terry Lipford says the donations from Cequent Consumer Products have been so valuable to the school and students.  “Many of our families are in need of school supplies and the donations have allowed us to help families in these hard economic times. The supplies have helped students be prepared for school and I believe have helped with the overall academic success of many students. The generosity of the Cequent employees highlights the love and concern for children that they possess. We share these acts of kindness with our children and parents. We stress to the children that they can emulate the actions of the wonderful individuals at Cequent by giving of their talents and sharing with others. It is heart-warming to see the smiles on the faces of the children who receive the supplies and the words of thanks and appreciation from parents. My staff and I thank Cequent Consumer products employees for their efforts. Having a partner in education truly demonstrates the saying that it takes a village to raise a child,” Lipford said.
